We all have a very busy daily life in our days and sometimes we feel the need to go straight back to home after work and doing nothing.

In this article we will do our best to persuade you that walking your dog has to offer you more than you already think of!

Mental Health

Being mentally healthy is vital for our overall condition and dogs have a huge positive impact on it. By walking our dogs we help ourselves to reduce our daily stress levels and anxiety. It has also been proven that people who suffer from depression can actually feel better by walking a dog and they are more likely to start seeing life in a more positive way.

Furthermore, walking a dog is very beneficial for your mental health because it will increase your levels of dopamine and serotonin (chemicals that are responsible for our happiness) and improve your mood.

Body Health

There are numerous benefits on your general body's health when comes to walk a dog such as keeping a healthy weight, lowering blood pressure, helping our joints, muscles and bones stay strong and staying active.

In fact, physical activity and exercise with our dog can reduce:

  • Breast Cancer risk by 75%
  • Heart Disease risk by 49%
  • Diabetes Risk by 35%
  • Colon Cancer risk by 22%
(The statistics have been taken from thebark.com)

Studies have also shown that walking your dog daily will lower the risk of osteoporosis and diabetes.

Stay Connected

Walking your dog is a great opportunity to socialize with people and improve your social skills. Instead of staying inside and surf the internet, take your dog out and walk around the neighbourhood, parks, woods or another green space. Feel the fresh and clean air in the atmosphere, stop thinking, relax and enjoy the nature and the company of your dog.

Furthermore, a walk with your dog can offer you the chance to meet new people and even start new friendships. Dog owners tend to greet and talk to each other on walks, so why don't we take advantage of it?

Build a Routine

Having a daily exercise routine can help us become more relaxed and able to cope with decision making. Our dogs also thrive on a routine and want us to create a solid daily schedule that both us will follow every day. By walking our dog on a daily basis, we are able to establish a good habit that provides us with good energy and boosts our mood!

Please, don't forget to:

  1. Always have a lead on your dog
  2. Take plastic poop bags with you
  3. Put an ID tag on your dog's collar
  4. Respect other peoples and dogs' space

So, are you ready for a healthy and active lifestyle? Grab the lead and start walking your dog. Your dog is your motivation and your key for a good well-being!

Now, with over 5 years of experience, I mainly train dogs in basic obedience but I've also worked with behaviour issues such as reactivity, fearfulness and aggression towards people and animals.
